Alberta Services - Traditional Land Use Sites Assessment (TLU):
- does not require an Alberta Archaeological Research Permit under the Historical Resources Act
- includes a site file search of previously recorded archaeological sites within a proposed development area using the Alberta Archaeological Site Inventory
- consists of the collection of both site-specific and general traditional and ecological knowledge (TEK) within a defined project area through documentary research, community interviews and field reconnaissance
- may include the recording of historic structures, pack trails, camping sites, trapping sites, game trails, berry picking areas, medicine collecting areas, birth places, burials and sacred sites, among other TLU sites
- may include the negotiation of information sharing agreements to allow for informed site mitigation and to protect TLU site confidentiality and the proprietary interests of the participating aboriginal communities
- TLU Reporting: a two-tiered reporting strategy produces a confidential Detailed Report for submission to participating aboriginal communities and an overview level Basic Report for submission to the client. Report mapping is compatible with GIS.
